Systagenix Celebrates 75 years of Pioneering Woundcare

Systagenix, the advanced wound management company was delighted to celebrate its 75th anniversary at the forefront of pioneering and innovative wound care. As part of the anniversary celebrations, the groundbreaking facility in Gargrave, Yorkshire, hosted an open day on Friday 11th September, attended by several prestigious guests from the locality, including the Rt. Hon. David Curry MP, as well as key partnership suppliers and customers and local, trade and specialist media.

Systagenix manufacturers in excess of 30 million wound dressings a month, more than 95% manufactured at Gargrave. These are used to treat patients in hospitals, nursing homes and also in their own homes in over 100 countries.†† Some of the products are used to treat acute wounds in surgery and accidents, where they protect against infection and encourage the wound to heal naturally.† Systagenix’s reputation as the pioneer in advanced wound care has led to the development of products that actively promote healing in some of the most challenging wounds that result from chronic conditions such as diabetes, obesity and vascular disease.† It is in these situations that Systagenix’s products are used to help save patients from limb amputation.

Systagenix’s ethos is about connecting the company’s exceptionally long heritage for innovation with its focused commitment to developing world leading new wound care solutions based on evidence.†† The company was recently awarded a £500,000 grant from Yorkshire Forward, the Yorkshire and Humber regional development agency , beating over 40 companies in the region.† The funding will pay for 25 per cent of all costs associated with the development of a new wound care product over a two-year period.

Systagenix was formed by a management buyout of the Johnson & Johnson Professional Wound Care business, which was based at Gargrave and remains the company’s operations and research & development HQ.† †

Systagenix has very clear objectives to become the world’s strongest and most admired wound care company.† The business has the history and knowledge, and has introduced a new, dynamic, energetic and highly informed management team to take it to the next level both here in the UK as well as across the globe.

Mark Kirkup, Vice President, Operations explains: “We are dedicated to growing and developing the Gargrave site to extend our position as a leading employer and provide clinicians with state of the art wound care solutions that really make a difference to the lives of the patients.”
